GI-ESCR presents with partners a feminist regulation for the constitutional convention in Chile

The Elena Caffarena consortium, which brings together a total of 21 Chilean civil society organisations, including GI-ESCR, elaborated and presented a proposal to include a gender perspective in the regulations that will define the functioning of the constitutional convention, the elected body that will be in charge of drafting Chile's new Constitution.

The document presents a series of proposals in the areas of principles and guidelines for the rules of procedure; organisational structure of the convention; functioning of thematic commissions; quorums in commissions and committees; ethics committee; citizen participation; and resources for effective and equal participation.

Valentina Contreras, GI-ESCR's representative in Chile, explains the meaning of this proposal for a gender approach into the rules of procedure of the constitutional convention:

"Genuine transformation of society and the economy through social rights requires the integration of a gender perspective in all areas of constitutional activity. The process of drafting the text of the Basic Charter is no exception and must reflect from the outset the real will to integrate gender equality. This is the contribution of this feminist draft regulation: to facilitate the concrete aspects in which the gender approach can make a difference”.
