Geneva Declaration: Anchoring Social Services in Human Rights Standards in the African and Inter-American Regions

Geneva Declaration: Anchoring Social Services in Human Rights Standards in the African and Inter-American Regions

This outcome document is the result of the collaborative work done by the participants of the two-day expert meeting on human rights approaches to social services held on 3 and 4 October 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Declaration gathers participants’ views about the current state of public or social services and their action-oriented recommendations to human rights bodies and civil society organisations on the way-forward for States to fulfil their human rights obligations to deliver quality public services for all and finance them through fair and progressive fiscal policies.

This Declaration was also developed in the spirit of a South-to-South collaboration, particularly between the African and Inter-American regions sharing common challenges impeding the provision of quality public services for all in both regions.

Participants contributed to the meeting and the Declaration in their personal capacities.

The Geneva Expert Meeting on Human Rights Approaches to Social Services was co-hosted by GI-ESCR and Geneva Human Rights Platform.
