GI-ESCR participated in a webinar on energy systems for the transition

The Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR) participated in a webinar organised by the Transnational Institute (TNI), CorpWatch, the Multinational Observatory, ENCO, and the Debt Observatory in Globalization. The webinar presented the findings of research led by these partner organisations, which reviewed the activities of so called “Green” Multinationals. The outcome of the research exposes how supposedly green capital has taken over the energy transition by dictating its pace and blocking climate policies that hamper its profits. The conclusion of the investigation of the activities of fifteen “green” multinationals demonstrates that financial returns, rather than decarbonisation, is their primary concern.

In particular, GI-ESCR’s Programme Officer on Climate and Environmental Justice, Alejandra Lozano, participated in the webinar as a speaker where different key issues around the energy transition where discussed.

To delve deeper into this discussion and learn about just, democratic and sustainable public energy systems, we encourage you to access the webinar here.
