UN Secretary General Acknowledges Liquidity Crisis Impact on Civil Society

The United Nations Secretary General issued a statement recognising the impacts of the liquidity crisis on the restriction of the hybrid participation of civil society organisations worldwide within the UN mechanisms, specifically the human rights institutions.

The statement was catalysed by a letter massively supported by us and other organisations worldwide, which expressed deep concerns about the significant negative impact of the lack of provision for live online participation tools on the inclusivity and universality of the UN.

The Secretary General’s statement, however, reaffirmed its commitment to explore every possible avenue to facilitate remote participation; at the same time, it will continue to make every effort to reduce the Member States' decision on a lasting and sustainable solution to the matter.
