Women's land rights combat climate change and protect human rights

 

GI-ESCR, in partnership with Landesa, recently made a joint submission to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on women, land and climate change.

The submission sets out why women’s land rights should be a key theme of the envisioned Human Rights Council discussion on ‘Women’s rights and climate change: climate action, best practices and lessons learned’.

The submission illustrates how directing resources to strengthening women’s rights to land, and their participation in land governance, simultaneously addresses climate change impacts and gender equality.
