On September 12, 2023, dignitaries of the University of Nairobi including Dr. Francis Owakah, Head of the Center for Human Rights & Peace; Dr. Patrick O. Nyabul, Chair of Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies; Prof. Jack Odhiambo, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs; Prof Stephen Kiama, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi; and members of the Arts Organising Committee including Dr. Kathleen Ayako Anangwe, Dr. Kimingichi Wabende and Dr. Geofrey Osaaji Mumia, joined Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, GI-ESCR's Executive Director and Juana Barragán, GI-ESCR's Programme Officer on the Right to Education, in launching an Arts Competition for University of Nairobi students, which aims to: 

• Motivate students to express their views, experiences, perceptions on public services as a right and particularly on how they think public services contribute to building a just, inclusive and equal society; 
• Empower students and their larger communities as holders and promoters of the right to public services. 

The vitality of public services in fostering human rights, particularly economic, social and cultural rights, was reiterated by all panelists.

University of Nairobi students were invited to register to participate in the arts competition and important dates were announced: 

• An in-person community discussion will take place at the University of Nairobi on the 19th of October to pursue the conversation around the theme of public services for building a just, inclusive and equal society.  
• The submission of artwork will be open until 5th of November.
• The Public Display of the artwork will take place on 17th of November.  
• The Awards Ceremony will be hold on 18th of November.
