Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights

Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights

We participated in an Interactive Dialogue with Olivier De Schutter, the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, at the 56th Session of the Human Rights Council.

During the dialogue with FIAN International and KATARUNGAN—Movement for Social Justice and Agrarian Reform—we presented a statement welcoming the Rapporteur's report "Eradicating poverty beyond growth."

In the statement, we highlighted that focusing on growth as the primary indicator of socio-economic progress can intensify profit-driven corporate ventures that often disregard human rights and the need to protect the environment. We also emphasised the crucial need to transition from a growth-centric and profit-driven economy to one that prioritises the well-being of people and the planet.

Furthermore, we stressed that a future beyond growth should, at a minimum, guarantee fair land and resource distribution to local communities, provide universal public services such as healthcare, education, energy, water, and sanitation, and reduce material and energy consumption to maintain well-being within planetary limits.

By participating in this event, we seek to continue mobilising and engaging partners in advocating for a just and equitable transition to sustainable societies.
